A quick trip to the library at Pontefract on 29 September 2020 to take out some books and look at their records, including a useful book of Crew members of Goole registered ships, from 1850. We have several mariners from that time so this should be helpful.

This was followed by a takeout sandwich sat on a bench off Aire Street in Knottingley, most of which has been demolished and replaced by cheap housing. I then went in search of the Ship Inn, aided by my 1905 ordnance survey map – and I found where it once stood, now built on by more cheap housing. I’ve searched many times before but this time was armed with old maps from the time, showing clearly where it stood.

And then a trip to Goole library to swap my library books and a bit of research. Here I found a map of Goole cemetery which will no doubt come in useful at some point!

Finally a ride up to Airmyn in search of some Barrett ancestors, and in particular the search for the Blacksmith shop. I think I may have found this in the car park of the Percy Arms.
